Just curious...

I am 31 years old and just starting college. I am a little concerned, as I will be graduating and trying for my CPA licensure at about 38 or 39 (going to school part time). Will I be doing this in vain since I won't be young blood? I am not interested in big 4, but will I be too old at that age for anyone to hire me?

Any advice?

It's an individual decision.  But I'll tell you I am (a lot) older than you, and I'm doing this at least to have some certification as I head into retirement to help my post-retirement job prospects.  No guarantees with a CPA, in fact I know there are a lot of unemployed CPAs out there, but everyone is different.

Are you satisfied with your current employment?  You've got to answer the question why you are even considering going thru all this CPA pain?  And it is painful.....

Hi there....thanks for your response...
I am not satisfied with my current job, medical
collections, been here for 11 years and I'm BURNT OUT! I
have always wanted to be an accountant, but now I am a
little concerned that I should change my major. I should
also put it out there that 11 years ago I was charged
twice (two separate occasions)with petty theft! (I stole
a shirt and a skirt from a two different dept. stores)
lol. I know, that is NOT going to help an accountant get
a job. But, this is what I really want to do. I don't
know what to do, pursue what I love and risk wasting all
the money and time, to end up not being employable due to
my age and misdemeanors. Oh, and I am ready for the CPA
pain...actually excited!

Hii

jconor,

I dont want to ruined your dream but As far as what i know, you wont be allowed to sit for cpa because of your record.

I have a friend who has bad record, even though he is dying for it, he cant take the test. this was back in 2008 maybe now everything might be chanced ( laws and regulation), check with fasb and see if you could take it or not

Good luck..
