Does anyone know the expiration date for the exam credits & work experience?

1) Exams
My first exam credit will expire in feb, 2012. If I don't get a license by this time does it mean that I'll lose my exam credits and will need to start from the beginning and sit for the exams once again?

2) Work experience
I was working as an auditor for public accounting firm for about 3 years in 2002-2004 (under direct supervision of cpa). If I now apply for a license will this experience be considered as a relevant? Or is it too old to satisfy the experience requirements?

Thanks

hi,

#1- you will only lose credit for that particular section (BEC,FAR,REG OR AUD). You only need to retake the expired credit section - not the other passed sections where the credits have not expired.

#2: you should consult your state board of accountancy:

In California, you must apply for licensing within 5 years after passing you CPA exams:

"Applicants must meet the requirements for ¡°active¡± status when they are approved for initial licensure. Therefore, it is required that the applicant have current knowledge of the practice of public accounting. This knowledge is demonstrated for initial licensure by the recent completion of the CPA exam and/or license experience within the past five years."

From my understanding, if you are applying for licensing in CA state, your previous experience from 2002-2004 should be counted since you have applied for licensing within 5 years after completing the CPA exams --"active status".

Or else, the Board might require you to take CPE hours to meet the "active" status.

Anyway, you should consult your state Board of Accountancy as the requirements differ and get over the exam ASAP.

Hope this helps.

i just wanna elaborate on:

#1:

IF your passed ALL Sections, all the credits will NOT expire.

If you  have not passed all sections, you only need to retake the expired credit section and the section(s) that you have not passed.

so, get it done within 18 months.

It is better to contact your State Board for Public Accounting. They can give more brief and detailed answers for your questions.
