Ray11, I used the following two websites to prep more on COSO and ERM:

http://www.coso.org/documents/COSO_ERM_ExecutiveSummary.pdf

and

http://www.coso.org/documents/COSO_ERM.ppt

Good luck with your studies!

Hi icanpass

Thanks for your valuable input on the exam preparation.
I'm planning to take BEC in Jan. Can you tell me how you
studied for the exam? Did you take notes while going
through the lectures or just make note down the formula?
I made my own notes for REG which helped me alot but for
BEC i believe the book is easy to understand. Can you
provide your views?

Hi all,

I wrote earlier in the thread about my expereince with
the exam. I am happy to say that I found out this morning
that I passed! I got an 89 and I am very giddy and smiley
right now.

My takeaways from BEC:

1) Create a formula sheet. I did this the second time
around looking at the lectures. Whenever I came across a
formula, I'd write it down on my notepad (since the sheet
turned into 17 pages of formulas). Later that notepad
became the best part of my final review. Since it covered
every formula in the book, it was a quick and dirty
review of all the topics. It was what I looked at in the
car right before I stepped into the test center.

2) Do some research on COSO and IT on your own. These
topics are more challenging on the exam. Do yourself a
favor and don't rely on your study material solely. Be
proactive and do some additional reading. That helped me
greatly!

3) Don't undermine this exam. BEC comes across as an
"easier" section when compared to FAR or REG. Believe me,
don't assume you can "trick" the exam by not putting in a
good effort preparing for this section. Do what
is required to make you feel comfortable with the
material and you probably will be rewarded with a passing
grade.

Good luck to all of you!

ZJ, CPA

I think the first thing you need to do is reflect on how you study and what you do to learn a material the quieckest and best way. I know for myself, I have found that I'll remember better if I write something down. My husband, who is studying to be a paramedic, can remember complex medical lessons by only reading the chapter 3 times. I can't do it this way. I need to write it down and sometimes even say it out loud verbally. So, everyone is different.

My overall study tactic has been to watch a lecture first, then go back and take copious notes on the chapter and proceed with MC questions. This mimics what I had to do in college - go to lecture first, then study the material on my own. A psychology professor at my school, who had done extensive research on studying, told us that the best way to learn a material is to listen about it first, then read.

After I had gone through all the chapters, I go back and take notes again and do the MC questions for the second time. This has worked very well for me for REG and BEC so far.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

Took BEC
on October 10. Still waiting
for scores to post. Anyone in CA that took BEC from
October 1-20
that got their scores yet? I assume it's probably due to
the WC
questions.

Just got my score in State Board of Accountancy website.
I passed
with an 81! Pretty excited to have the first one done.

Some reflections on BEC...I definitely would recommend
setting aside
2 to 3 days before the exam to reread the book and create
notes on
the chapters and develop a formula sheet.

The most difficult part for me was the way the AICPA
structured some
of their computation questions, so I would definitely
recommend also
using Wiley or another competitor's book from the library
solely for
practice problems (I used Becker for my prep).

I will try to upload my notes to this forum so you can
use them in
preparation for the exam.

GL to all others in this testing window!
