Hey guys, I am about to enroll in a top-ranked Macc program in NYC for spring 2012 and I would like to know when recruiting starts during the spring term.
A little background about me: I have a Bsc in Accounting (135 credits) plus I have already successfully completed the CPA. As it stands, I only need 15 credits to meet NY requirement, however, I will have to take more classes as per the program requirements. The main reason for me attending this school is to take advantage of the recruitment process as well as their strong accounting program.
The Big 4 firms recruit heavily at my school and I would like some strong advice about getting my foot in the door of these firms from day 1 at school. All the top financial firms in NY recruit here as well but my focus is strictly on getting into a PA firm so I can apply for my CPA license.
Will completing the CPA already make me more or less desirable? What clubs or activities should I participate in etc?

The majority of recruitment happens in the Fall. I go to CUNY Baruch & just
went through recruitment & accepted an offer from PwC.. All the Big 4,
midsize & regional firms recruit a year in advance. This semester they where
recruiting for Winter '12, Summer '12 & Fall "12. Having your CPA will be an
advantage but what I found is that personality & campus involvement plays a
key role. They want to see if you'll be a good fit with the firm

Hey! I got to Baruch too! :D I just went through the recruitment process
for PwC also and got an offer for Summer 2012 Assurance. :] Which group
do you plan on joining?
Also, I agree with what AC888 said, it's more about your personality and
involvement on and off the campus. During my 3 interviews, all we really
talked about was tennis, art, video games and the occasional
job/personality based questions, all my interviews ended with smiles and
laughs. Let your personality shine through and SMILE, I understand that
it's an intensive process and whatever but try to smile, laugh and have a
good time!

I go to Fordham and I graduate this month, I just went
through the recruitment process which lasted from around
September - November. I received and accepted an offer at
PwC for Assurance starting in January.
Completing the CPA exam is completely amazing, and any firm
will be very happy that you already have that done. And
will give you the 5000 bonus after signing the offer.

Thanks for the info guys. Yes, I will be going to Baruch, even though I originally applied to Fordham and NYU as well but I decided against the last two because of monetary reasons and timing issues with regards to the degree completion date.
I read somewhere that there is some recruiting done at Baruch at the end of the Spring semester, is this true? What clubs did you guys join on-campus and what off-campus activities do they consider vital? Does Baruch offer scholarships to students in the MS programs? What are the classes and professors like etc.?
I would like some tips from now because my main focus in the program will be on getting recruited by a Big 4 firm, hence I'm try to position and condition myself from early.
I'm sorry for all the questions, but I just wanted some feedback from students who are currently enrolled. thanks.
