I just moved to a new city and now conducting my job search. Does an out of state phone number matter if the listed address is local on a resume? The reason I ask is I have a very nice easy to remember cell phone number that I've been using for year and I hate to change it. But I've heard some employers will assume you are out of state based on the area code and screen you out automatically. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Mention on your cover letter that you recently moved from old area to new area, to cover this ground. Otherwise, the employer would be suspicious, since it's an area code that is not familiar.

If it's a cell phone it is pretty common for people just to
keep their old numbers. As long as you have a local
address [and a street address, not a PO box] I don't think
people would care. I agree you definitely want to mention
that you are already living in the area, though.
