I've cruised FAR (85) and BEC (I think) and feel like REG is smacking me right in the face. I'm throwing up scores in the 30s in the Wiley software. If this is indicative of the exam, I'm cooked. I'm amazed at the pass rate (more favorable than I would expect) after three weeks of studying REG.

Its not as bad as you think, Many people who pass REG have
exposure to tax quite well. As from Jan - April, anyone who
works for accounting firm are pretty much doing what the
tax part of REG is asking. Keep going, I used the Wiley
software and Gliem. Its both the same, I suggest take Wiley
and then Get Gliem, as they take the Wiley questions and
modify it. It helped for me. Good Luck!

I appreciate your reply, although you may have affirmed (unintentionally) my concerns. I work in corporate finance, but more on the FP&A side. I have very little exposure to tax, so it's almost a foreign language. I'll keep at it - thanks again

I'm not sure about Wiley, but perhaps you just need to
spend more time with the material?
I've had zero tax experience as well (except doing my
personal taxes), but I definitely found tax more
difficult than most of AUD. Know your individual, corp,
and partnership cold, and you should be good there. I
just finished R6, and so far I'm getting 93% on the
progress tests. Corporations was giving me a hard time
before, so I just focused more time on it (re-read some
of the chapter, went through notecards a few more times,
etc), and have been doing much better.
It also helps me in Regs to read the long explanations on
many of the MCs, as it's akin to re-reading that part of
the book. If you need, get you hands on a current
college Tax book, as it will expand a lot where Becker
leaves off, and may be necessary to clarify. I haven't
done that yet, but at times their explanations in the
book does NOT cover what is in the MC's. However, the
explanations will cover something not mentioned in the
text. A pita for sure, but definitely helped in filling
in some definite blanks in the course text.
I'm glad I'm onto the 2nd half (R5-8) as it's all law,
which is kind of like AUD... as it's mostly just
memorizing stuff.
I also can't recommend the flashcards enough! I'm taking
REGs Aug 18. I like to be at at least a 90% on final
exams. Rework those pita tax simulations (I have yet to
do this but will soon). I play it by trying to average
95% on the MC's so I can bomb half of the Sims, and still
pass, lol.
Best of luck,
Doug

Dougefresh - that's a very helpful post, thank you. My gameplan is to finish the remaining two chapters in RogerCPA while doing about 50 MC a day during the week and 100 MC on the weekend days. I will then cycle back through RogerCPA to rewatch the tax sections. I feel ok with individual tax, having trouble with AMT and corporate tax. I have 35 more days to go, so no panic yet.
