After graduating last December, it has taken me 8 months but I finally landed a job in Accounting! However, they emailed me saying that there are several candidates whom they are considering. They asked if I would consider doing a two-three week job with them so that they can see if I would be a good fit for the company. Of course I would be accepting that offer. At the job interview we were told that there were two positions available and because it was a group interview I was able to see who the strong candidates were. Now I'm only assuming but I believe they chose 3 people to fill the 2 positions.

A little background of the company, it's a small-medium sized accounting firm that likes to consider themselves a "full service" type of firm. Which means they do a little bit of auditing, financials, taxation, consultation, etc. and they mostly work out of the companies who hire them. They have pretty well known clients but they are by no means close to the big 4 in size. My questions for anyone willing to lend some advice are:

1) What can I expect on my first day at the job, will I need to brush up on my accounting knowledge? It's not like I don't know accounting, but I feel like most of what you learn is really hands on and what they teach in school can't compare to being out there.

2) Other than the obvious, show up on time, stay overtime if I had to, what else could I show that I would be the best candidate?

3) What questions should I be asking without looking like I need my hand-held along each steps? I heard I should ask questions like..."Why is the process like this? Is there a more efficient way we could do it?" But I don't want to ask too many questions where they find me frustrating.

Edit: I received additional information that I will be working together with a manager in the firm on a systems implementation project that will last two weeks. I am hoping that maybe someone has some insight, like if you yourself were a manager, what is the most you can expect out of someone new or even someone interning. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
