Hi all,

I'm going to be using Becker to review for the CPA exam. However in college I didn't take Corporate Taxation and Business Law. The only class I took that has anything to do with REG is Individual Taxation (took it in Fall 08).

My question is, will the self-study lecture dvds be good enough to teach me topics in corporate tax and business law? Or am I better off taking a live or online class? I haven't registered for Becker yet as I am still deciding which format I'll be using. I'd appreciate any advice and insight you can offer, thanks.

I have never taken a Business Law class and started studies after 8 years of leaving college. I just used Becker lecture CDs for AUD and for the rest of the subjects I did self study and I managed to pass the exams on my first try. I also do NOT have accounting background.I think you just need to figure out what works for you....The key is not taking the BEST/EXPENSIVE review course....it is using review course(s)/methods whatever work for you and whatever make you remember the stuff tested on the exam. I think if you read the law section of REG a couple of times you will be totally fine.

Good luck to you.

Bruin,

I agree with arushi. I did not take corporate or any entity tax except individual. Becker really teaches you what you need to know for the test and thats it. Granted, I don't know whether i've passed REG (lol) however, I wont switch to anything else if I failed because I've passed the first three tests on the first try with only becker...imo, the becker methods really work.

By the way, the only difference between online and self study is that for the online class you will have an instructor who is just there to answer questions if you have any. Also the online class is structured into certain weeks, but you do everything (watch the lectures, homework, etc.) on your own time, so long as you finish it within the week. I have taken two tests like this and I would recommend it if you can fit the Becker schedule into your own. Otherwise just do the self study and create your own schedule. I guess I don't know much about the live classes, but to me it seems like the most inflexible of the three options.

And to more directly answer your question, yes the self study cd's will work just fine to study Reg.

Remember there's no difference between any of the formats. Everyone watches the same lectures and does the same homework. For the live classes, someone is just there to press play on the lectures. The only difference is that you can ask questions to an instructor for the online and live classes. However, I have only done this maybe twice.
