Well ladies and gents, I am delighted to post that I was
notified of my passing grade (80) a couple hours ago. As
I sit here sipping on a nice cocktail, I thought I would
post my thoughts/suggestions if you're interested.

First of all, I would ignore all posts about stating that
they had so many of this type of question and so many of
that. EVERY test is different! There is no way of
knowing and it is unintelligent to try and focus highly
on a certain subject because you believe there will be so
many of that type of question on the test. You must have
a basic understanding of all the material.

Secondly, I used Becker. With this material, I watched
all lectures once (no matter how boring and redundant)
and then constantly banged out the flash cards and
questions.   Marking questions I felt were important
during the first time through.

Third thing, relax and conceptually understand what the
questions are asking and why the answer is what it is.
Ill be honest, I didn't even finish all of the questions
and looking back, I believe I worked myself up a little
too much over this. IMO, there are too many practice
questions but by going through the lectures and book you
get a feeling of what you need to know. So I will say
this... it is more important to get through all sections
twice (mixture of questions, notes, reading, etc.) rather
than doing all of the MC's until you memorize the
answers.

Lastly, good luck to you all and be prepared for the
writing portion. Know how to format your memos and be
sure to use proper grammar and punctuation... EASY POINTS

This was my first attempt at BEC and I am pleased that I scored an 88.  I would agree with the above statement about the memos.  Easy buffer points, just use a simple format, intro, thesis, body w three or more points conclude and salutory finish.  Becker shows you exactly what to do.

I disagree with the above poster about the multiple choice Q's.  You need to bang out all of the homework because they point out small technical points reading and watching a lecture will not.  Do the homework and if you do not know how to solve a homework problem, don't pencil whip it, figure out the mechanics and beat it up.  Look at it from this perspective: you can either study now, or study again in a couple months.

If you can handle all of the Becker homework problems, as well as the practice exams, you will walk away feeling good about this one.

I guessed on a good chunk of the math questions on mine. What I also recommend is understanding core concepts.

I tore it up on the essay part mainly because I watched Peter O'Geary or whatever his name is lectures on formatting/properly writing a response. Your response can have only one fa ct and all fluff in it, but if you write it properly you are going to get near maximum points.

The conceptual stuff, just be very comfortable with the high level stuff .. and then you'll be able to get by if you are familiar/understand about 50% of the more focused issues.

ALSO DO YOUR BECKER HOMEWORK QUESTIONS!

Let me rephrase... the Becker HW questions are important, but let me emphasize the importance of QUALITY over quantity.  It is more important to take your time with the questions you struggle with and understand the concept behind that question instead of just zooming through them while memorizing the answers.  Understanding the questions is more important than simply completing all of the questions.
