Hello,
Does anyone have any specific tips on the written portion
of the BEC exam?
E.g. using a certain salutation or signature?
Or is including a date important?
Or certain punctuation like using colons?
Or the basic format of your response?
Just curious. Thanks and good luck to all of us.

Well I found a section in my study book about this, so I
figure I'll just type some of the pointers out to help
answer my own question as I'm reading it, in case anyone
else had the same question.
1- Use short paragraphs and sentences and maintain
coherence within paragraphs. Be concise.
2- use a topic sentence at the beginning of each
paragraph, develop and support it through the rest of the
paragraph. Substitute pronouns for previously used
keywords. Use transition words like (therefore).
3- Repeat keywords from previous paragraphs.
4- It's a good idea to outline your response before
writing. Helps to focus on the flow if ideas.
5- Avoid passive constructions (e.g. WAS evaluatED
6- do not use abbreviations.
7- Write with appropriate explanations to the target
audience. If none shown, assume it's a knowledgeable CPA
8- If defining a word, use a parenthesis to define it.
e.g. limited partner (liable only to the extent of
contributed capital)
9- For unknowledgeable target audience, incorporate a
"you" attitude. For professionals you work with,
incorporate a "we" attitude.
I don't see a signature on their examples, though the top
is formatted like
To: Mr. James Smith, CEO
ABC Co
From: CPA Candidate (I'm assuming you put your name
here)
At the end of the response, the examples put a sentence
that says "If you have any other questions about so and
so, please contact me"
Anyway, hope that helps.
