How do you deal with a difficult topic when you are not making the progress that you think you should timewise - do you switch topics and come back or stick to it at the expense of spending more time than you thought of allocating?

That happened to me with Becker 1 and part of 2. I made the notes as I usuallly, grasped as much as I could and went to next chapter. After completing F5 when I started revising, it was much easier.

So, I would say skim through it and come back to it after couple of chapters.

I did FAR differently from the others, because of the same problem.  Too much is inter-related.  So I gave up trying to understand it one part at a time - I had a deadline to take my exam.

What I did was watch the entire GAAP set (Becker's F1 through F7 lectures) straight through.  Then I started from the beginning on the F1 through F7 MCQs and did nothing but MCQs for about three weeks.  Yes, it was tedious, but it was a lot easier after I had seen all the GAAP lectures.

Once I had completed my first pass on all the GAAP MCQs I watched the Governmental/NFP (F8 and F9) lectures and did those MCQs.

The rest of the summation and review I did normally.

Thanks to both of you.  I was doing bonds last night with half my mind in it which did not help...

I put 1 day off every week into the schedule - because I used them to circle back around.  This stopped me from hyperventilating about falling behind in my schedule.

Usually moving on and coming back to it helps.  I didn't grind on it unless I felt I was close to a breakthrough.  If I still could not improve my scores, I went through Wiley on the topic and did the mcqs from that book. Sometimes a different perspective makes all the difference.  I would go through my flash cards simultaneously to make sure there was not an error in them.

Wiley has been a cheap reference that paid for itself when I could not get decent scores on 2 Becker chapters.
