I took FAR at 8 this morning...  I have been bombing Becker finals, I was insanely stressed out with the exam plus work.  I sat down, the MC's didn't feel that bad in the first testlet....  Second testlet, the MC's felt about the same difficulty.  Third testlet, possibly a little bit more difficult, had to straight guess on probably 3 or 4 questions.

Got to SIM 1, probably did alright.  Didn't know what I was doing but I wiggled my way through it.  Did well on the essay, didn't get the research question.

SIM 2, got TOTALLY MIND *removed*ED.  I literally didn't even know wtf they were talking about.  I hadn't studied any of the material on SIM 2, and it was GIGANTIC.  I'm talking like multitudes of journal entries for government that I hadn't studied.  Cash flows from government that I hadn't studied...etc.  Needless to say, one of the tabs I literally left everything blank.  Another tab was maybe 30% complete (total guesses too)

Regardless, I basically only did one of the tabs on the second sim, wrote the essay, and then found the research.

Is it even possible to pass if you lose points for nearly an entire sim?!

Feeling pretty *removed*ty now, considering it can't be retaken this year, and a new Becker section will have to be purchased for next year if I failed....

I took FAR back in August.  I thought that I did ok on the multiple choice, but I could tell that I got a medium difficulty on the 3rd testlet, so I knew I was already behind the 8-ball.  Although, I think that I did reasonably well on that testlet.

On the first simulation, I got a monster of a simulation. This included investments, pensions, capital leases, and foreign currency translation.  I like many people understood all of them fine for multiple choice purposes, but having to "fill in the blanks" with time running out was a daunting task, trying to remember where to depreciation, and when to use the effective interest method, etc.  So I know I didn't get too many points from that sim.  Then, I did pretty well on WC (it was graded as "comparable").

On the second simulation, I was definitely running out of time so I took the review course's advice and did the 2nd WC first (not sure which one they chose, but again I got a "comparable" for WC).  Next I did the sim.  This one definitely wasn't as meaty as the first one, and it looked easy enough.  It was basically recreating a trial balance from given information (I won't go into details so I don't violate any CPA rules or anything).  But basically, it looked like an easy sim, but because time was running out, I missed an entire resource tab that would have given me information that I needed, and didn't find it until 5 minutes left to go in the exam.  With that last 5 minutes, I tried to make the answers as perfect as possible, but they were still very shaky.  Its really hard to guess when everything is fill in the blank.

All in all, I knew that I did about average, or slightly below average on the MC, didn't think I did well on the sims at all, and thought that I did well on the WC's as far as being clear and grammatically solid.  Turned out that I got a 74 on the exam.  The kicker being that my worst area was not-for-profit, which I was killing in practice.  My point being, I don't think I did especially well in any area (except WC but it's only 10%), but I still nearly passed.  Everybody gets killed by FAR, so you probably have a good chance of passing if the 3rd sim was challenging, and you were able to fill most of the sim tabs.

Thanks for the info.  I agree that it's possible I passed, it really just depends on how well I guessed on Sim 1, and how well I did on the MC's.

Is it actually true that the MC's progressively get more difficult?  I've heard this stated multiple times, but have never seen any legitimate disclaimer of this.  Also, I've heard tons of stories to the contrary of people whose testlets didn't get progressively harder but who still scored in the 90's.

If it makes you feel better, I know a person here on this forum claimed that he got a 85 leaving BOTH sim (except written communication), so you have a great chance passing, good luck!

I thought everything was same difficulty. I would say second and third were a little more difficult. My SIM were all right. Second one was **** up in terms of material and I guessed too. So do not worry, you will be ok and pass.
