I have been recently laid off and it is very hard to get a job in the current environment as you all know. I would like to make myself more marketable and get my CPA certification so I would appreciate any advice on the following two questions...
1. I passed the NY State exam about 13 years ago and have not worked in public accounting. Does the exam results ever expire as I do not have any public experience and took the exam such a long time ago?
2. Is there another state where I can apply and get my certification without having to work in public accounting?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.. Thank you..

Rob, your test scores should be good for life. I just got a Calif license this year after passing the exam in May 2000. I had 150+ hrs of education, and needed one year of public accounting experience. I was laid off from the tech sector, and started a public accounting job in Jan 2008.
I think Colo has a way to get a CPA certification without experience (need 150+ hours edu.)
