Hi, just a few questions regarding the California certification and licensure.

I have passed all 4 sections of CPA exam, have not taken the Ethic test yet. I'd like to know the timing for the ethic test. Was it within one year of passing ethic I need to have the experience or was it two year? Before and after the experience, right?

Also there is talk about requiring master degree for cpa license, what's the latest on this development?

Since I passed all 4 sections, I believe there is no expiration for califirnia state, can someone confirm this?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Lakersgo! I've just passed my ethics exam yesterday...on my 6th attempt!! But so glad it's all done. You have 5 yrs after passing the exam to get together your experience and education req. However, your ethics exam is only good for 2 yrs b4 you apply for the license.  So you need to take that into consideration. I believe after 5 yrs, you will need to take come CPE to keep your exam scores "active".

You don't need a master degree to apply for the license. However if you go with pathway 2,  you will need 150 semester units. I only have a bachelor's degree in acctg, so I'm actually short 12 units myself :(  Planning to take some classes in the Fall at a JC to fulfill the requirement.  If not, u can apply pathway 1 and your license will be be good in CA.

BUT - I read this last month, not sure if will really take in affect in 2014? Anyone else has an insight to this? Thanks in advance!

I was just licensed 8 years after passing the exam in May 2000. The caveat is, beyond 5 years, your qualifying experience must be within 1 year of applying for the license. I did not have to take CPE. So I believe exam scores are good indefinitely in Calif. Read the licensing manual carefully though to make sure.

dlee: That's a good story about Calif CPAs not getting reciprocity. Calif needs to get on board with the 150hr requirement.

calvol: Thanks for the confirm on the non expire exam scores! I want to apply for my license now, just so tired of this whole ordeal. Now I need to take 12 units at a JC  - I've grad college 12 yrs ago so this is no fun at all :P
