Hi All,

I have done B.com and MBA in HR from India. Have no work
experience. I'm currently in NJ. I want to give cpa exams.
My concerns are, I want to give the exams and get the
licence and cpa certification. So I want to know which
state exams should I go for the hassle free certification
and Licence. Please help me..

Hi Kusum, I doubt any state grants licence to practice without any prior experience. In my experience, DE and NH work best for international students but suggest you do some research on both these states. You will however need accounting/tax courses along with some relevant work experience in order to get your certificate and licence. It can be done though with some hard work and persistence.

Good Luck!

Colorado is the only state that grants a license with no work experience.

  • a Masters degree, doctoral degree, or a bachelors degree with 30 additional hours;
  • 39 semester hours in accounting;
  • 6 semester hours in audit;
  • 36 semester hours in general business subjects, with no more than 9 hours in any subject;
  • pass the AICPA ethics exam.

NH is for candidates who don't have enough accounting credit hours to register with other states, the problem is that NH only recognizes public accounting experience and many get stuck because they can't get a job with a public accounting firm and at the same time can't transfer to any other state (not enough accounting courses).

Illinois is the most popular state with Canadian chartered accountants and Canadians who just want the CPA certificate.

Colorado is big with Indian chartered accountants.

Delaware is the only option for those without an equivalent to a US bachelors degree (Chinese, Indians, Japanese and Koreans).

Hi there

I have also cleared CPA exams thru CO State and it's been 2 years and still I am not sure how to get certified. I am a CA from India. Does it make sense to follow rule 2.5 "educatiion in lieu of experience". If yes, then please can someone suggest evalauting agency that doesn't require original transcripts.

Please someone let me know.

Thanks
