I am a B COM and CA from India and I passed my CPA exams with Colorado board 2 years back. I recently applied for a license with them based on my work experience in India with a small CA firm while I was in India, but got a rejection letter saying it does not meet the US accounting standards requirement.

Since last 2 years I have been working in US with an insurance company in the field of accounting under the direct supervision of a CPA.

I really want to get my license but don’t know which state to apply with, as some states require going to school in US (which I never did) or some need public accounting experience. Can I use colorado board's education in lie of experience?

Can someone please suggest me which state to apply for? I would highly appreciate any help.

I would normally suggest Delaware. The problem is that you need to have completed a US federal tax course prior to taking the CPA exam, otherwise you have to retake the CPA exams.

Try California.

hi kripa,

I am also going through the same situation. I have done M.com and articleship with CA firm in India. Came here and pass cpa exams from CO board 2 years back and want to apply for license on the bases of experience taken in india under CA firm. So you got rejected becoz indian a/c standards are not as per US a/c standards ? there might be chances I am get rejected too......!!!!!!!

So Kripa are able to give me some information what we should write for our description of work perfomed that met US std. or you can email me the "description of work" which u attached to your license application. Because I am not getting in what way I should present my work experience.

I will really appreciate if you help me out...
