Hello,
I recently passed all four sections of the Cpa exam. However, I don't plan to make use of a cpa license for another 2 years at least. In fact I may not ever use it as I am everything is up in the air right now.
Now I know that it is costly to maintain a license- almost 1K a year in NC.
My question is - Should I wait to get my initial license? Or should I get licensed and go into inactive status?
It is going to be a bit of a task to get licensed as I don't currently have surefire cpa references, and I am going to have to contact people who didn't know me long from my past and hope they will be willing to give a moral character reference for me. Unfortunately it has to be notarized too and so I will have to hope either they have a notary or I can find one who will meet us somewhere.
I am hoping that others who have experience with this can give me advice. Is it a risk if educational requirements change? I also did not find anything about there being a time limit after passing to apply for licensure. I noticed that it says you must meet educational requirements within a time limit after passing your exam. Currently I fulfill these requirements, however I am worried that if they change them and require more hours, I may not meet them and not qualify any more.
Does anyone have advice on whether I should get licensed now and go into inactive status or wait to get licensed initially?
