Does anyone on this forum have any serious interest in sitting for the CIA exams? It seems a waste not to sit for them since MUCH of the material overlaps with the CPA exams. If you look at many audit job postings the ask for either the CPA or the CIA.

I first sat for the CIA last May and passed Part 1---missed the other 3 sections by a few points. I will not know how I did on the last round in November till the middle of January---but I have a good feeling about it. Also if you have a CPA--you automatically get credit for Part 4---so you only have to sit for 3 parts--125 MCQ .

I've toyed with the idea of doing the CIA. One of my former CPA colleagues passed the CPA on the first try but failed two sections of the CIA (she later passed). To quote another former colleague, "The CIA exam is a mile wide and an inch deep."

Currently the CIA exam is not computerized--but they anticipate moving in that direction.

In my opinion the exam is not nearly as hard as the CPA. Also once you pass a CIA section the credit isgood as long as you sit for the exam once in a 2 year period after you pass that part. You do not have to pass only just sit for the exam. Much better than the 18 month the CPA operates under.

I sat for the CIA for the first time in May 2005, with only 2 months prep for all 4 sections I passed Section 1, but came close in the other 3 parts. You need a 600 to pass---what ever that means.
Part 2--575
Part 3--573
Part 4--590---if you are a CPA-- Part 4 is waived

I should get my results for the November exams around Jan 15 and I will let you know how I did. And I may have some CIA review books for sale--if I passed. Both Wiley(which were just published in August 2005) and Gleim.

I swear the May 2005 and November 2005 exams were the SAME.
