Hello,

I am a CPA. I am interested in becoming a CIA. I have 1 year and 8 months of external audit experience and then was laid off. I am currently working as a Staff Associate at a global Forensics Accounting firm. I have been there for about 4 months.

I do plan on getting my CFE but was advised to wait a year before doing so. I feel that a CIA is an excellent certification and would like to take it now while I still have some time to study at my job.

So here are my questions-

1) Given my 20 months of external audit experience and  four months forensics/Fraud experience, would I qualify for the certification?
2) Is there a minimum hours of external audit experience required for the exam?
3) I sent an email to Certfication @ theiia last week and didn't hear back from them. How long does it normally take for them to qualify me?
4) They do qualify me via email...right? That's what the lady on the phone said.

*whew * Thanks guys. I don't know a single CIA and I am all by myself here. I passed my CPA exams with the help of this forum, too =)

1) yes

2) no

3) call them instead.

4) If you have established a profile on their system and started paying up as part of the CIA, you can email the docs with reference to your ID. Most likely, they will not approve anything if you have not enrolled (aka paid up) in the program.

Excellent- I have no intentions of paying unless I qualified. I don't see myself getting any more Audit (Internal or external) experience in the coming years and would hate to have paid for membership only to realize that I my WorkEx wasn't good enough.

Thanks!

I took part 1 of CIA exam last October, and I failed.  I learned from this forum that the exam is quite tricky.  What material are you using to study for the exam?

Hello,

Once my WorkEx is approved- I'll probably do Gleim.

Seems to be the most popular one...isn't it?
