I notice a lot of young people are taking this exam.  Not that I am a complete old fart, but I have been in the real estate finance/accounting profession for over 12 years.   I never received the proper education, but I have much experience.  Two years ago I breezed though all the course requirements to sit for the exam.   Are there any "veterans" out there who believe their experience in the real world helped them study and pass the exam?

We have students taking Roger's course who have been out of college for 15 - 20 years - one even graduated in 1979!

You also have to keep in mind that because of the current financial state of the country, you have people who may have studied some accounting in school but ended up going into other industries like mortgage or finance. Now because of the financial climate, these people were forced to re-evaluate their career choice and a lot of them have chosen to go back to their accounting roots and get certified.

So you are definitely not alone.

I can't speak from personal experience because I haven't gone through the exam myself but from working for a review course and my professional experience with our students, "older" students (or those who have a lot of work experience and are just now deciding to pursue licensure) have a stronger study ethic and are not as distracted by extra-curricular activities. One older student of ours breezed through the exam in 4 months even with a fulltime job and a family at home and I strongly believe his age and experience had a lot to do with it.

There's no reason why you can't do this and if anything else, your "real world" experience will serve as a catalyst to your success, not a liability.

Good luck!
