I know Becker releases new books every year but out of the 4 cateogires (BEC FAR REG AUD), which one do u think changes the most year after year? Is it easy to "update" that material? Does the AICPA or something tell the new changes from year after year?

It all depends on the changes published in law and standards.  Here is where you find the Becker updates for mid-year changes that go into effect before the next edition is published:

http://beckerkb.custhelp.com/

Be warned, however, that Becker does make changes and updates in its books from one year to the next, but does NOT publish a list of those changes.

Becker also does not always update the previous years' books for changes in the current year.  For instance, SFAS 141r became testable starting July 2009, but Becker did not provide an update on this topic for owners of the 2008 materials.

This affected people like me; I have 2008 books and software, and my 1-year license is active through the end of the July/August testing cycle.  To get the information on SFAS 141r Becker offered to sell me the 2009 book and software for FAR.  (I didn't want pay for the whole Becker program just for one topic, even at a discounted price, so I bought a 2009 Wiley FAR book for less than $40.)

I can't speak on Becker's material (for obvious reasons) but be aware that the AICPA BOE issues new CPA exam pronouncements twice a year (December and June) - there is about a 6 month lag between when these changes are announced and actually tested.

This year, the largest change occurred in FAR with the change to Consolidations. In 2007, the largest change was in AUD. There's really no way to know ahead of time what will change.

I would expect however that FAR and BEC will change significantly in the next year or two - the AICPA BOE wants to implement "CBT-e" which would move communications to BEC and with the adoption of IFRS in the US, this will likely change FAR significantly.

Hope that helps and best of luck to you!
