I know the CPA exam is computerized but is there anything to write on during the exam?  I'm finding the need to jot down some of the numbers while working the MC questions to keep things organized but I don't know if I'll be able to do that during the exam or if I will just have to use the MR, MC, M+, M- buttons on the calculator that is provided.

You will have only a few minutes to read all the introductory screens and get started.  The "getting started" countdown starts running when the testing center monitor activates your terminal, before giving the computer to you.  This is NOT long enough to write down all your notes. 

Also, you will not need all your notes during the test.  You have to be prepared for anything, but you will not be tested on everything.  If I got to a question where an acronym would be useful to select the correct answer, THEN I would write down the acronym and its meaning.

It is recommended to check in at the Prometric center 30 minutes before your schedule exam time.  You will sign in for your exam and they will ask for your two forms of identification (driver's license and a signed credit card) and your NTS.  After they have verified your identification, they will take your picture and your fingerprint.  The Prometric center I use has lockers for your things.  You can't take anything into the exam room with you except the key to your locker and your driver's license; additionally, they will give you two pencils, and a booklet of scrap paper.  Just to warn you, the scrap paper is always colored, so the pencil marks, I think, are harder to see.  Where I go, I keep getting bright blue!  ughh  There is a list on your NTS of things you can't take into the exam room...basically, nothing goes in there except what I indicated, not even a cough drop! They will also ask you to pull out your pockets so they can verify they are empty.  On your scrap paper, you write down you section id # on your NTS before you walk in the exam room.  This is the code you enter to start your exam.  I think you have 10 minutes to go through the instructions before the countdown of your exam time begins.  At least where I go, the testing area has small desk areas with partitions on both sides.  The partitions aren't very tall and aren't any wider than the desk.  So, in other words, you can still see whoever is sitting beside you.  They give you a headset to put on if you want to muffle out any noise around you; the headset isn't connected to anything.  If you take a break in between testlets, you have to take your driver's license with you to sign in and out again.   The Prometric center I use is pretty flexible as far as your appointment time.  You can't be late, but for each test I've taken, they have offered for me to start early.  I'm about an hour away from my testing center, so I usually get there early and review my notes for a while before I officially sign in for the exam.  Hope this helps!  I'm sure there are variations amongst the Prometric centers.
