I'm not really sure how the procedure works but I meet the requirements for both NJ and NY's state boards of accountancy. I plan on taking the exams in NJ because that's where my school is and the recruiters who come from the big 4 hire for jobs located in NJ. However, I'd like to eventually work in NY. But I don't know how the licensing works. Would I have to retake the exam in NY or do they have some sort of reciprocity?

Thanks!

You will be able to transfer your exam credits to New York, but you must meet the NYS education requirements (and work exp requirement) to be licensed.

There are far more accounting jobs in NY than NJ so if you start your career in NJ you will likely eventually become a NY CPA.

I wouldn't worry about which state to get licensed for now since you first need to obtain work experience to become licensed.
