I'm planning on getting my credentials evaluated before I register for the exam: because I'm not absolutely sure if I meet the exam requirements or I'll have to go back to school.
Is there a restriction abt the time lapse between when you send in the evaluation to AICPA through the agency, and when you ACTUALLY take the exam?

I am not aware of any such time limits. Once your credentials are evaluated and state board found you eligible for the exam, you can take exam anytime. To take the exam you willl need to have NTS ( Notice to Schedule) for which you will need to select which section and pay the exam fees.

I put in my exam candidate application in Nov. Being a first time applicant,
it took a little while cause my transcripts had to be sent over. By mid-
December I was approved to take the exam, just needed to pay exam fees at
that point. I had a deadline of June to do so.
Once I PAID, I received the NTS and it had a time limit of one year for me to
take the exam. I applied for all four parts at once so my deadline to take all
four parts is the end of November. Which, when I received my notice to pay
the exam fees and saw that I had till June... I thought that also meant I'd
have to take all four parts before June. I was thoroughly relieved when I
found out I had another 6 months to take the exam.

In my state, (TX), after your letter of intent is approved by the state board, then you need to pass all four parts within 2 years of that date, or if you don't, you will be subject to any new requirements that have been established to sit for the exam. For example, in TX, they will be adding a communication and research requirement starting in 2011.
