So I just got an offer to work in NYC, and I look at the CPA requirements and they are ridiculous.

I didn't undergrad accounting, I get an MBA w/ an accounting concentration. So that may be what is hurting me, but adding my undergrad and grad accounting credits together I still only get 26. I need 33!

What are the chances of my application being accepted? I took all the core courses, but the curriculum was crunched together (Intermediate 1 and 2 were one class).

Am I allowed to apply for a NJ license, since that's where I live?

Good grief it's always something...

LSU (Louisiana State Univ.) has an online program not tied to academic calendar.  A 3 semester hour class costs a bit more than $250 and they are regionally acredited.

I only want to enroll in courses as a last resort.

I was wondering if anyone applied since NY changed the requirements and how strict they are about the 33 credits.

Also, what are the rules regarding what state you are applying to?

Blindbat7,

First of all, congrats on the Big 4 job!  I don't think it would be any problem for you just to get the license in NJ.  NY is pretty strict about the academic requirements.  I work in NYC, although at a smaller CPA firm, but there are many CPAs here who live and are licensed in NJ.

Thanks!
So it isn't unheard of to apply for your resident state? Does that mean I'll only work on engagements in NJ? Is this something I should clear up when I accept the offer?
When I looked on the below site I got confused. There are liberal art business courses that appear to count towards the 33 accounting credits, such as ethics and business communication.

I'm just really confused at this point. lol...
