Anybody know an easy way to get the 36 hours in Accounting without getting a Masters in Accounting? I meet the 24 hours required in CA but apparently FL doesn't recognize intro classes, so that sets me back 18 hours.

I wouldn't call it easy, but here's what I did. I went between 3 different S. Florida universities for undergrad courses picking up accounting electives that one university might have but the others didn't (like a Taxation in the European Union class I took at FAU, for example). I, then, enrolled in a Masters program but only took a couple of classes and dropped out to get me to the 36 hours needed.

Dealing with admissions, enrollment and counselors from 4 different schools was a total headache. The "easy" thing would've been for me to take the 15 hours I needed at one university to get into a Masters program, and then just do the Masters program. But I saved a ton of cash doing it my way (on average, $300/class undergrad vs. $3,000/class Masters). So, if you want easy, go into a Masters program. If you want to keep your money, sample all of your local undergrad programs.

Thanks for the reply Fairplay. Speaking of FAU, I thought I saw somewhere they had some distance classes in Accounting. Is that what you did or did you go through the campus?

I don't know about their regular MACC, but they do offer a Masters in Forensic Accounting that can be taken either in person or completely online - that's where I got my last 2 classes. They also offer some online undergrad ACC classes as well - which is how I fulfilled my last Bus. Law requirement. The Euro Tax class was a live class with no online component.

As a side note - it cost me more to take just those 2 online Masters classes than it did to take the other 12 undergrad classes combined.

FAU offers a Master of Taxation degree that can be done completely with distance learning.
