Hi,

I am Priya, a chartrd accnt frm India. I am planning to write the CPA exam in Feb 2006. Will 3 months be sufficient to prepare all the four sections? Or will it be a very tedious task?

I just want to know the approximate difficulty level for Indian CAs to write the CPA exam...Becoz, I heard it is much easier for us..Is it true?

I have lost touch in the CA field for the last three years due to my job...Will this cause a major issue?

Hi,

I'm also a CA from India and recently started preparing for Jan-Feb window. What I have gathered from all experienced people is that it is quite easy for Indian CAs. All my CA friends who are in US have cleared in the first attempt with good scores.

What i have felt is, it is very theoritical. You might have done your CA with the old syllabus. In that case, only Audit, Law and SADP were mainly theoritical. rest all was full of practical questions. Here preparation for MCQ's requires reading theory for pages and pages. I did my CA in May 2002; at that time there were hardly 20 AS and 25 SAP. But here Audit and Accounts are full of pronouncements. So my experience, we need to very much determined as the subject matter is not interesting. This will only make us stick to the books.

Right now, I'm studying from Wiley.

Good luck with your studies.

Hi

Thanks for your reply...Yeah I understand that there will be a lot of theoritical study..Even I am planning to purchase the 4 set Wiley CPA Review book for my preparation...Does the Wiley books contain comprehensive theory chapters also? Or do we have to purchase any seperate book for theory preparation alone?

Your reply will be very useful for me as I am planning to purchase the books by tomorrow....

Hi Priya,

The Wiley book has compiled all the pronouncements in a concise manner at the end of the book. They are very useful. We can simply go through these outlines as they are referred in the chapter. It helps to understand the topic very well. So we are not supposed to buy any other book for theory preparation.

If you want to see the books you can go to Barnes & Nobles or Borders for a day or two and get the feel of the matter. This was what I did. Otherwise you can find Wiley in most libraries. I bought 05-06 edition i.e. the two volume set which is the latest edition available and borrowed the 4 volume set from library. Both are almost the same.

I hope this will help.
