I am a CA (All India Ranker in all three levels)from
India and I would like to work in USA as a CPA. But I
have a few question regarding work eligibility and VISA
status, kindly suggest -
Note - I am currently an INDIA CITIZEN not AUTHORIZED TO
WORK in USA.
1. I am planning to get married in USA but my husband has
a H1B visa which will give me a DEPENDENT STATUS which
DOES NOT ALLOW ME TO WORK IN USA. So if I appear for the
CPA exam and clear it will my VISA STATUS change to
F1(student visa) allowing me to be employed in the US ?
2. If I do not enter USA as a DEPENDENT and simply appear
for the CPA exam, does it make me eligible to work in the
US even though I am an indian citizen ? Since only
H1B/F1/J1 visa holders are allowed to be employed in USA,
I am really confused.
Unfortunately writing and passing the U.S. CPA exam will not have any
immediate bearing on your Visa status. What will make a difference is that
having passed the exam you should become more attractive as an employee
and if you are offered a position with an American company, they can
sponsor your change in Visa status. If you would like help with eligibility and
state selection, please email me directly, thanks, L.A.
