I just met a big 4 tax partner at a school event. He really likes that I'm going for my masters and that I have passed the CPA exam. He told the recruiter to meet with me to set up an interview for a tax position (full time or internship). Does anyone have experience with this? I have been looking for a job for two years now and don't want to get my hopes up so I can concentrate on grad school.

The fact that you have passed the exam is a HUGE plus.  I would venture to say that unless you completely bomb your interview, which is highly unlikely, you will get an offer from this firm.  In fact, I wouldn't limit myself to just interviewing with this big 4 firm.  You are a coveted recruit in the eyes of all of the big 4 firms with your CPA already in hand so I would start talking with all of them.  I guarantee you will get an interview and most likely, offers from all of them, which puts you in a position of signing on with the one that makes you the most comfortable.  Congrats on passing the exam!

All the Big 4 internships I have heard about make you quit school for a semester and work you to death.  The pay is great (over-time) and it as long as you don't screw up you pretty much get a job offer when you graduate.  It is hard to quit school but definitely worth it for something like that.  I have friends that were making more than staffs and seniors because of all the overtime pay.

I haven't heard much about any Big 4 internships that make you QUIT school. If your referring to taking a semester  off, there may be a few fall and winter internships out there, but 90% are in the summer. And what is considered working you to death? The summer interns who I know, and there are several, all worked 40 to 50 hours a week all summer. Even in the fall I doubt you would be worked to death, unless 50 to 60 hours is considered death. I work at one of the big 4 and even in the busy season it's not too bad, except for a couple of killer weeks.

I guess it all depends on the region.  All of the ones I have heard about are during the spring and involved 12 hours days during the week and half a day on Saturday and sometimes even more.
