I worked 2 yrs in Internal Audit for a Private Company after graduating with a bachelors degree from UCSB. I then worked 1 yr as a buyer for a better salary in the petroleum industry until I got laid off.

Now I am taking all four of my CPA tests finally and am hoping to pass and have my old CPA boss sign off and get certified within the next 4 months.

I will then be trying to get into the big 4 in Los Angeles/Orange County area once I am a licensed CPA and start working in Audit or Tax most likely.

My question is this: Is it really hard to get hired for someone with my certification and experience that did not start with a Big 4 right out of college?

I looked on all the big 4's website and I cannot find any jobs that fit my description, as most of them are for graduating students or for Manager positions.

Can someone please advise me on my best way of applying to the big 4 for the first time after I get my CPA and have 2-3 yrs experience?

Do I need to know somebody or should I just wait till a job description matching my resume (rare) pops up???

I sincerely appreciate any advice anyone can give me or guidance as towards making a career decision at this point in my life related to starting for the first time with the Big 4.

Thanks

PS - I just turned 25 if that matters

Your best bet would be to enroll in Masters in Accounting or Tax at USC or CSU Fullerton and go through their on campus recruiting. Realistically, that's the only way to get in Big 4 in your situation. < id="gwProxy" ="">< ="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" ="">

WOW!!! Are you serious??? Is it really that impossible to get in unless you are recruited out of college or out of a graduate program??

So you are saying that they would not take a fully licensed CPA (4 tests passed and qualifying experience signed off and ethics test passed)??

I would think there is a good chance but I might have to know somebody to pass along my resume???

I would hate to think I would need to waste time in grad school and waste lots of money in grad school just to get hired by the big 4 when I already will be a CPA and can do the audit or tax work no problem...

There has to be an easier route...

Anybody??

Please help... my future career and ambitions depend upon this possible path...

thanks in advance!

A woman wrote in on some other thread yesterday that she got into PWC through networking, so that is another option in some cases.

I guess it would be easier if there was a manager or partner who would refer you to the firm. But you probably don’t have those at the moment, otherwise you would have already tried them.

The firms have such an abundant supply of candidates from on campus recruiting that there is little motivation for them to look in other places. Let’s hope you will be the lucky exception
