I'm going into my sophomore year at a state school and have completed Financial and Managerial accounting and have a 4.0 GPA.
I don't expect to get any offers, but I just want to go to my school's accounting night for the experience and to show off my resume while I still have a 4.0 and maybe get remembered. I know KPMG and at least once local firm will be there.
I will be wearing a navy Ralph Lauren suit to the event (says regular $500 but got at Filene's Basement for $219), and I am curious as to whether I should wear my breitling colt GMT. It is being repaired right now so will come back looking brand new in time for accounting night.
I bought it when I had money, but am a broke student now so I can't afford to pay for a leather strap if that is considered necessary for a suit and interaction with the Big 4 (the watch has a polished stainless steel bracelet).
It looks just like this:

I know wearing french cuffs and monograms, etc to these events is a no no, so will wearing a nice watch (esp with a bracelet) be similarly frowned upon? I guess ultimately the decision is between this watch as is or no watch.

I think you're over-analyzing your wardrobe. Just look professional and avoid too much bling.

Like others said, you are overlooking it. While wardrobe is important, doesnt matter how expensive it is. For example, I come from a poor background and have had to wear suits that I've gotten at Thrift Stores for under $70 total. No one notices the difference, as long as youre clean and professional. Polish your shoes though, that really does make a difference.

It makes no difference. There will be so many people out there that night. No one will even have time to notice your watch.
