Ok, so basically I have a little dilemma right now.

I have an offer from both a Big4 and a Midsize firm. A year or two ago, I would have taken Big4 easy, no doubt. But after visiting with a few midsize firms, especially this one that gave me the offer, I definitely feel like I would enjoy working more at the Midsize. However, would I be a complete fool to reject the Big4? Has this even ever happened? I've been doing a lot of thinking and I came up with the biggest pro for each one. Midsize - Work/Life Balance
Big 4- Reputation (better exit opportunities)
Of course, there are a bunch of other factors as well but they are pretty minor and somewhat cancel each other out.

So I was hoping to get some advice on what you guys think? or if any of you has been through this experience? A month ago, I was stressed out over the thought of graduating without a job offer. Now, I'm stressing out over 2 job offers. Funny how things work.

some people do....and they all make sure to tell everyone that they could
have gone big4...if they wanted to...

Go where you feel most comfortable. If you like the midsized firm, then maybe you wont need exit opportunities. In addition, the pay difference is negligible until you make partner (which isnt likely for anyone).

I know someone who passed up the opportunity to join one of the Big 4's really specialized but obscure tax groups to work at a midsized firm where he'll get a broader range of experience.

Where do you feel most comfortable? That is your key question.

That being said - the Big 4 opens up doors that midsize firms cannot. The Big 4 also provides much better training and you can always move to midsize from the Big 4.

I am in the unique position of moving from midsize to Big 4. I enjoyed my time at the midsize firm but the opportunities that exist at the Big 4 are unmatched in midsize.

If you feel strongly about the midsize firm - go for it. If you perform you will succeed, regardless of which firm you choose.
