Background: I have been lucky
graduate from a university which the is used
as recruitment grounds for the Big4.

Unfortunately, I had ignored the opportunities
at the point in time they were presented before me
and i graduated with a without any major accounting
experience or any solid contacts.

At the present moment, I have recently completed 5 months
internship with a local accounting firm and am pursuing
volunteer opportunities.

Is it still possible to try and land a position at one of
the Big4 for 2012 or 2013?
My GPA isn't particularly impressive at 2.9.

Is there advice anyone can provide for contacting
recruiters, other means of networking, or any other
helpful tips. Comments would be appreciated.

Your GPA is too low. You have to go the MACC route and try to get at least 3.5 and up.

I would echo the suggestion for the MACC route, but also
chime in that being able to effectively sell yourself
both at networking events and in the interview itself is
perhaps THE most important part. And who you know.

Case in point myself, I graduated 4.0 undergrad
accounting, 4.0 MACC immediately afterwards (graduated
spring 2011), placed in national accounting competitions
sponsored by a big 4 firm, passed CPA, CFE, and CIA, all
on first attempt, am sitting for CMA Part 1 this
Saturday, Part 2 February 25th, taking CISA in June, and
will be sitting for CFA level 1 in December 2012.
Clearly I am a very driven individual.

I didn't receive offers from ANY of the big 4, nor from
ANY public accounting firm for external audit, which was
the path I wanted to go into. I even had several
professors helping me out. I am employed, but it took
much longer than I expected and I became VERY frustrated
to say the least.

I had friends in school with completely different
statistics, GPA right at 3.0 and still trying to pass CPA
now, but with offers from all the jobs I wanted.

So anything is possible. It doesn't hurt to apply
everywhere and network your butt off.

I had <2.5 UG and got into a non-target Macc and got a big
4 offer with a 3.75 GPA (and a lot of ECs)... so it is
possible, if not probabale.

The biggest thing is just don't stress about what you've
done, just make your resume stand out. Get a high gpa,
volunteer, internships ect
