Hello all,
I am going to be starting my first semester of a two-year MSA program and needless to say, I would like to be recruited by one of the big 4 (also GT & McGladrey) for an internship next summer. My question's are:

Does recruiting for these positions really start in September as I have been told?

If so, I am an undergrad Economics major with only Financial Accounting I under my belt; will this hurt me? My GPA in Econ is a 3.9+ and overall is 3.8+.

I would say that you are definitely well positioned for
Big 4 recruiting for two main reasons:

1) Most of the students who attend 2-year MSA programs
have not majored in accounting as undergrads and firms
that recruit from your program are well aware of that.

2) You have two recruiting seasons to go through. So, if
you don't end up getting a Big 4 internship during your
first year (hopefully, that's not the case), you could
intern at a regional firm first summer and get a full-
time Big 4 offer next Fall.

To answer your question regarding the timing of
recruiting, you are gonna have to check with your career
services. As I recall, recruiting for full-time positions
takes place in Fall, whereas recruiting for internships
ordinarily takes place in Spring. But definitely check
with your Career Services.

By the way, are you attending UNC at Chapel Hill?

Thanks for the reply, I will be going to SUNY Binghamton. I got accepted to bc, vandy, baruch, bentley, and a few others with a little scholarship but suny is much cheaper and has around 80-90% big 4 placement.

Just curious, hayek, do you live in NYS? I ask because I do
and was accepted by Binghamton and Baruch. Binghamton is
cheaper, but Baruch's $8,000 tuition is an absolute steal
as well so I'll be heading there in the fall.

Either way, both are great schools. Best of luck to you!
