I am currently working for big4, who is thinnking of moving to local state goverment audit.  In terms of money, it is quite a sacrifice, but due to my personal situation, I am thinking of moving.

Is there anyone who works for local goverment audit field?  Could you please provide your experience regarding the work for state government?  (career advancement opportunity, salary increase, working hours etc.)

Qbmom, my friend works as an auditor for the local government. She loves it. They provide great training and great work hours (most of the time). Salary increases automatically first three years. Afterwards, it depends on your work.

Does the salary adjust for cost of living after 3 years?

I've been contemplating gov't work since the benefits and work/life balance are outstanding and I'm starting to realize that life is too short.  I just worry that I'd be limited my earning potential 10+ years down the road.  I'm not looking to get rich but I want to be able to provide a solid middle class lifestyle for my future wife and children.

I worked in the public sector for a large accounting firm for 2yrs, I recently made the switch to work w/ Manufacturing & other clients. Our firm is one of the leaders for auditing state and local governments w/ offices all over the U.S.  The money is the same as other industries at least until you get into the senior manager position, at that point it is based on your contribution margin & sales. Email me at cdnfish11@gmail.com, and I can give you more information on my experiences.

Hi, I am working for a state regulatory agency which audits insurance companies. So far the training & exp was great.......... I've been to Axa Equity, AIG, Genworth.......  although pay is not so great....starts at low 40s.... after probation, it becomes 52. Benefits are pretty good....low cost medical insurance, great paid leave including.....  6.5 weeks of vacation, sick, personal and holidays, and great pension option at the age of 55 yr with 60% of final salary. With 37.5 hours weekly and opportunity to move up by passing promotional exam (which is offered every 3 yrs), I believe this is a decent job. I like it here.
