I graduated from school with an accounting degree last year but have only started looking for work recently in the public accounting field.  I also recently started studying for the CPA.

I have been working the past 5 years in IT as a Systems Engineer/Administrator.  I know I will be taking a big paycut going for my first Accounting job which is terrible, but I am okay with that.

The problem is where do I look for public auditing jobs?  I try monster but they dont seem geared towards entry level public accounting.

I live in the NYC area.  What is the best way to find these cpa firms that hire?  When is the big hiring season?

I also find my resume is so heavily focused on IT since that is my background, it is hard to slant it towards accounting.

Thanks for any help!

A heavy IT background should make your job search easier when looking in the big 4.  It may not be as much in demand with the Audit and Tax side of things, but try and look into some of the Business Risk Service lines.  I think the hardest part is the find someone who is a current employee at one of these places that is willing to vouche for you and push your resume to the right people.  I wouldn't go the online application route if I were you.  Things seem to get lost in the mix.

As far as hiring goes, the risk departments are usually always looking for new people. If you can't find a current employee to push your resume a job fair may also be a good option.

karkorie: Your chances are higher than a lot of people posting over here, since you already have big 4 experience...make sure you pass the CPA and get licensed.
