Hi everyone,

For those who have applied for positions through company websites, do any of those companies reply back to you?

I've been reading through a lot of topics on this forum recently and it seems most people get their jobs through recruiting agencies or they were highered straight from college.  Anyone know other ways to get at least an interview?

I have actively applied for a jobs for a month now, through websites, and I have not received a call once.  I worked as a financial analyst and now passed the cpa exam, I dont understand why I'm such a bad candidate.  I've seen jobs taken down on those websites too, so someone got the position obviously.

I guess I can answer my own question now.  I still have no response after applying on many company websites.  Its been 2 months since I actively started looking for a job. 

I also went to a Meet the Firms event in southern California at a local college.  I talked to recruiters that work for the big 4 and mid-tier firms, and it seems that they are only currently looking for college students to start next summer or fall.  I also tried to bypass the recruiters by talking to managers, hopefully they can do something for me and I can actually get an interview.

I also got an offer from a small firm last week.  They offered me 35,000.  I rejected the offer because that is a lower salary then my last job, with worse benefits, and I would have to travel 80 miles roundtrip each day to get to their office.  It was an office in orange county, my expenses would be high and I would not be making much of anything after all my bills were paid.  I could have accepted the job for the work experience and left after 6 months, but would that make me look like  a job hopper?

I think you are right, lelik.  Even if they do think you are a job hopper, I don't it will be the deciding factor determining whether you ultimately get the job or not.  Interview is key.
