Does anyone think the bigger regional firms (maybe not Big 4) will be recruiting this season with hire dates for entry level before next fall? Or is it more of a standard that they recruit now for postions that start a year from now?

Sometimes they'll bring in Tax guys starting in January. If you have no experience in Tax however, that can be a painful experience.
You also have to be really careful, they don't plan on letting you go come May. Firms love to do that to people.

We hire people for early summer, but that mainly is because of educational visas running out.
