I applied for the Revenue agent position with the IRS and I am hoping that some of you will answer the following few questions for me.

1) What happens after the intitial application. When do I take a test if any.

2) I have my CPA and a masters degree and also I have accounting work experience. With these qualifications what grade can I negotiate or what grade am I likely to get.

I will appreciate any help to these questions or any other information that I need to know since I am new to this process. Thanks

1) About a month after you apply you will have to take an online test which is very easy.  After that who knows how long it will take before they call you, just know that the government moves very very slow on these things.

2) No idea, but you should be able to figure this out on the USAJOBS website or by calling a number listed with the job description

A few years ago, as a CPA you didn't need to take the accounting test for the RA job to come in as a grade 9. But things change so I don't know how it works right now. The govt has recently hired a lot of very experienced CPA's as RA's for Large Business. Being a RA for Small Business is a great training ground too.
