I graduated this past May with a 3.86 GPA from a highly
respected University in my state (keep in mind people
outside of my state and the surrounding states most
likely won't know the name, but it is one of the top CPA
Exam passing collegiate institutions in the midwest).
I interned for this firm in the Spring of 2008 in tax and
was the first of the group of interns in my location to
receive an offer. My original offer was 49K + 2K signing
bonus and the availability for a bonus at year-end.
(average for firm is supposedly 6%). Now, due to the
economy, my salary was dropped to 46K and I am not even
starting until next month.
I am in a Midwest city other than Chicago, and the firm
is between 5 and 8 of the world's largest.
I am trying to remain as anonymous as possible while
giving the required info. I did go to one of the salary
websites and they said the average for my info is just
above 45K but that just doesn't sound right to me.
So what do you think? Do you need more info?

I'm not an expert but that sounds like a reasonable salary.

I forgot to mention that a Robert Half (is that correct??)
booklet I saw listed my salary as below average, but I
don't think that takes into account geographical
conditions.

Well I don't want to give the exact city. If someone from
my workplace logged on here I may be giving away too much.
So it's one of these 5.
Indianapolis
Milwaukee
Kansas City
Minneapolis
St. Louis
(according to Wiki that is in order of population)
