Over the weekend I enrolled in the online BS in accounting program at Southern New Hamshire University.  Since I already have a bachelors degree, the program will take about 2.5 years to complete.  So my question to everyone here is "Did I make the right decision?"  Is SNHU a reputable school?  I did extensive research into SNHU and, according to their website, Ernst & Young does recurit their graduates, so I figured that if SNHU is good enough for one of the Big 4 then it is good enough for any other employer.

I don't start classes until this January, so PLEASE tell me whether I am making the right decision.  My ultimate goal would be to get my BS and then possibly do the online MS in accounting at the University of Connecticut so that this way I can stand out from all of the other accounting majors without any experience.

Thanks in advance!

I would say that depends on the cost of the education. Don't spend more than 2K/semester on tuition or you are getting hosed.

Accounting is a fantastic field, and a valuable expertise. However, all of this education you are chasing after is not going to be the answer to your problems.

There is only one thing that will guarantee your success: Develop a relationship with the recruiters. Be active in BAP and go to all of the events and grab an internship of some kind.

Otherwise, you may be in trouble, should the economy fail to recover in the short term.

If you already have a BS, why not just do a MSA?  I know a lot of people who have a BS in other majors and then went back and got a MSA to get the accounting credits to do the CPA.  Not sure why you would want another BS and then do the MSA.

yep, I don't think it's the right move. You want to go straight to MSA, take some prereqs. Less time and less money. Also, you want to go to a real msa, not online. Then you can get recruited, otherwise, don't even bother getting a degree, just take courses and takes the CPA. But I think getting a real MSA is the best.

Thanks for the advice. I can't do an MSA right now because I don't have the necessary prequisites.  I like the online MSA from the University of Connecticut, but I will need to take 8 undergraduate accounting classes to be eligible for it.  So as an alternatve to getting a BS in accounting, my 2nd option is doing the classes at SNHU and then apply to UoC.  Also, as far as doing an online degree, I don't see how anyone will know the degree was earned online.  I get the same degree as a campus student.

However, if I have an MSA with no undergraduate accouting degree, will I be less compettive than someone with both a BS and an MS in accounting?  This is my #1 concern.  So if someone can re-assure me that an MSA with no BS in accounting will not hurt me, then I will feel mch better.
