Should I tell my new employer about the Qualified Transportation Benefits? My old employer offers this benefit where we can deduct a limited amount of transportation cost from our monthly income before calculating income tax. Then, add that limited amount back to our income. The result is our cost of transportation commuting to work is tax free. This program also benefits employer because it reduces the payroll tax that employer has to pay.

I am just working at this small local company for few days. Should I bring this up to my new employer?

Here is more info. about the program from wikipedia.

It would never hurt to bring up an idea that would be cost saving for a company.

Be sure to know the details of the benefit when presenting to your new employer.  The cost of transportation commuting to work is not tax free, it is the cost of using mass transportation that would be tax free.

"Eligible expenses for transit include expenses associated with using any public or privately operated transit service."

Since you're new, I'd float the idea around to some coworkers or your immediate supervisor to see whether the idea was proposed before, get a general sense of how the idea would be received, and who would be the best/most appropriate individual to approach. Make sure to have all the relevant details ready when making your pitch.
And have a better website than Wikipedia to refer them to!

Thank you very much for the feedback. I think wikipedia is a good source because it is easier to understand than IRS.
