I need some advice on getting my foot into the door anywhere in public accounting. I got my MS with a 3.4 GPA about 5 years ago and took a job helping to run a small merchandising business. I have also passed the CPA exam within the past year. Now, it seems I can't even get an interview because every posting requires at least one year of experience, or they want recent graduates only. I have tried in the past to get into audit but to no avail. I want to do tax now instead, but I'm completely lost. My real question is what should I do? I can't get experience because I can't get the job, and I can't get the job because I don't have experience! My gut tells me I should be networking, but where do I find out the info on recruiting events?

Everything in your post is exactly what is totally and utterly STUPID about the accounting profession. You're not the only one to have all those exact same problems. It's just a STUPID profession with STUPID employers that ignore people with great credentials.

Hello,
I am in the same boat as you (somewhat). I have been out
of school about 1 year ago (masters) with a degree in
Accounting. My prior experience is in insurance. I am
currently taking the CPA exam.
I think the best solution is to network with other
accountants. Also attend networking events and job fairs.
Just got to keep trying.
