I've posted before that I'm 38 and looking to get ed in accounting, cpa, then enter field.

I have a teaching ed and a masters in religion.

Jumping right into an accounting masters seems very difficult to handle the new subject with no background in it or any business/finance classes.

Trying to work and take classes in evenings, so would you advise taking bachelor classes and completing the requirements to take the cpa exam and finish sooner (maybe 2 - 2 1/2 years) or a masters in accounting, exam and finish longer (4+ years)?

Thanks.

Have you checked to see what exactly you will need for a
master's and how long it will take? I had no undergraduate
background in accounting or business and got a master's in
accounting in three years, and would have finished in two
and a half years if I hadn't needed to retake a class. Of
course, I was attending full-time.

Whatever path you take needs to be one where you can have
access to campus recruiting.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I've looked nito the coure work with a few colleges. I can't go full time. So the bachelors would take less time because I could handle more classes in the evening like 9-12 hours per semester as opposed to 3-6 hours grad classes per semester.

The univ with better campus recruiting requires ALOT more prereq classes. Add another 2 years to it.

Is the recruiting through the univ that important to getting an internship/job? The other cheaper college I would pretty much arrange it myself as I understand it?

Yes, the on-campus recruiting is VERY important.  But at the age of 38, you're gonna stand out and not get hired by any of the public accounting goons cos they only want snotty young people.

But, why do you want to become a CPA in the first place?  You realize the CPA is not a slam dunk and is often an overrated career?  It's just like the saying goes, dog.  If it sounds too good to be true . . .

It seems EVERY career path you go on a forum and somebody shoots the idea down of going into it at my age. CPA just seems to be more positive than other possibilities and I think it will fit my personality and abilities. Gotta do something. My original career didn't work out nor my second. What's behind door #3.
