Becker says:
WAN employ non-dedicated public communication channels as their communication media. WAN communication services maybe be provided by value added networks, internet based networks or point-to-point networks.

It further says " VANs are privately owned and managed communications network that provide additional services beyond standard data transmission."

What I don't understand is aren't the underlined portions above conflicting each other?

WAN is Wide area network

VAN is value add network

We have two kinds of networks, 1) LAN (local area network), within a floor, building etc., it needs transportion media(wires, fiber optic etc. for communation between network.

2) WAN (wide area network), could be within company with different locations, in one city, country or worldwide. It also needs a media for communication, like internet (phone lines) or any other source like VAN. VAN is provided by third party severvice providers, like in canada we have rogers, or bell.

Internet is public, less secure, less expensive but fast

VAN is private, more secure, slow, and expensive becuase its private.

hope it helps!

R.Raza, are you from Canada ? Which state are you registered with ? Many Canadian CA's sit for the IQEX exam to become US CPA.
The CPA exam isn't recognized in Canada. Do you plan to work elsewhere ?
