I know EXACTLY what you mean. I had no problem studying the concepts in chapters 1 - 4 but come chapter 5 and I am lost. Everything is so foreign to me. And it takes me 10 minutes to do each Becker problem. I can't believe how awful this chapter is, as far as I am concerned this is the worst chapter I have seen yet in Becker including all of FAR and AUD.

Don't sweat variance too much as they would only ask 1 to 5
questions max.
I would focus more on Business Structures, IT, and
Financial Management-Managerial Accounting. Mastery of
these topics will get you through the exam. Reading and
doing practice questions a couple times for Cost Accounting
is enough. As long as you're strong in the other topics, I
think it's ok to take your chances on Cost/Variances.
I started on my fourth or fifth round on the Becker mcs for
ch five today. I got through them really fast. Repetition works
best for me. As for the topics that just go over my head, it helps if I
SLOWLY read the sections over. Sometimes I write down sections word for
word. Just reading it in a different way will usually help me.
Variances only stuck for me once I copied down that stupid three tier table a
couple of times. Also look at the PURE mnemonic. I did this at
work. Every half an hour or so I would write town the tables and
formulas. Now it is much easier. Good luck!
