Just returned from taking my first part of the CPA exam -
BEC. It couldn't have started any worse. Not the exam
itself, but getting there. I live near Philly and my
testing center was just across the river in NJ (19
miles). Left at 3:30pm for a 6pm testing time. It should
take 35 minutes without traffic and I gave myself plenty
of cushion considering rush hour/shore congestion. I
thought absolute worst case, I'd get there at 5:30. Well,
the worst case scenario is the one I got, plus another 45
minutes. Thanks to the weather there was flooding and
every road going to and in NJ was crawling. Luckily the
Prometric people were kind and got me in there. Very
grateful for them. If I was taking any part other than
BEC, they said I wouldn't have been able to take it. So
by the time I sat down, I was just relieved that I didn't
drive almost 3 hours to not take the test.

As for the exam itself:

-Testlet 1: I'm just happy this testlet was so easy. My
nerves were shot from the drive and this kind of eased me
in and allowed me some extra time in the following
testlets.

-Testlet 2: Definitely more challenging than the first
one and much more computational.

-Testlet 3: Similar to testlet 2. Less computational,
still challenging. In a word, tricky.

Testlet 4: Had about 50 minutes left for this and took
way too much time on the first memo. Overall not too
difficult.

I got a 70 and 68 on the Becker final exam sims and
thought they were much more difficult than this test.

Part of me thinks I passed, part of me thinks I have no
clue. Just happy I got to take it.

Sounds like you did okay.

I live in NYC and I'm taking my BEC test this Saturday (July 16).  I only have to worry about the subway, but I don't think there will be any problem;  they're predicting beautiful weather on Saturday - no rain or anything that could affect the subway.

Regarding the Becker finals, I did okay on exam 1 (I actually got all 24 right on the first testlet of the first exam - don't know how I did that), but only got in the 70s on the other two.  For exam 2, I did much worse - 66 75 66 on the three testlets.  My main problem is that I panic for time when doing any number crunching.  I am also hoping the live test will be easier.  For my other two tests  - FAR and AUD - I did poorly on the Becker tests too, but I still passed the live tests.

As far as your live testlets getting harder - I heard that BEC is not adaptive - meaning they don't get harder if you do well.  It's good that your first test was easy to get you started.  I'm hoping the same for me.  Good luck to all.

Lefty,

Good luck on your exam. I live in Philly as well and i know what you're talking about regarding the comute.

I notice that you used Becker for review. PLease tell me that the exam questions are not hard as the becker pass master questions.....I am so...lost with the Financial Management Chapter. There seems to be more calculations that FAR in this section. i dont know how i am going to get through this. i thought BEC was going to be a breeze after dealing with AUD and FAR but this is starting to be a nightmare for me.
