In the written communication, I would definitely say less is more... being concise is always a plus... it gives you less opportunities to make errors... if you can find the answer in the research tab, then use it...
Based on my experience... the structure of the letter/memo, whom it is address to, grammar, the way the sentences connect, and how appropriate the language is for the audiance is what you should be more concerned about... in FAR, they can ask you the smallest detail about something you've never heard of so the content may be garbage, but if that other stuff is fine, you'll do well on it
