I'm just wondering if I'm the only one. I seem to always miss questions
not because I don't understand the material, but because I either read the
question wrong or made a miscalculation. I did a practice exam the other
day and probably would have gotten about 5% higher score had I not
made dumb mistakes. I did the tax MCQ's in Becker and out of 10 wrong
answers, 7 were from dumb mistakes!! That was a difference between a
70's and 90's percentage!!

I really think that if I fail my exam tomorrow it's going to be due to these
issues. That's why I can't stand timed exams. If I had all the time I
needed to really read and internalize the information, like I do in real life,
I know I could perform to my real knowledge and potential.

I guess this is more of a rant, but I would feel a little better knowing I'm
not alone on this one, and maybe if everyone has similar issues it'll all just
even out in the end when the scores come out.

I do it all the time!

It sucks to miss questions due to simple mistakes. Most of the time I miss a question not because I didn't know the concept but because I misread the question or didn't pay close enough attention to a date. I feel bad when it happens but that's why we practice these damn questions hundreds of times. IDK if this is your first exam or not but the actual CPA exams are more straight forward and you're unlikely to see a question that has a whole paragraph of information like the Becker questions do. Less information in the question means you're less likely to make a dumb mistake.

There is an acronym someone one this forum made, abbreviated "RTFQ"

"Read the *&^%#%$ Question." I tell that to myself before I start each exam, just to make sure I look at every word and every DATE of every question carefully. The last thing you want to do is miss points simply because the examiners slip in a July 1st or September 30th date.
