Hello,
I'm a recent High School Grad and aspiring CPA and I've been reading all of these topics on CPE and looked into it a little but; however, it still confuses me.
So after the CPA exam one must do continuing education? And is this education specific to the field you're working in?
And does this have anything to do with the ethics exam? By this i mean, does one have to take an ethics exam before becoming a practicing CPA?

Like many professionals, CPAs are required to complete a certain number of CPE (Continuing Professional Education) hours per year or period. Usually, an hour is 50 minutes of class time. Each state is different in terms of requirements. In Indiana, you're required to complete at least 20 hours per year and 120 hours in a 3 year window. Indiana also requires 4 hours of ethics and 12 hours of Accounting or Auditing specific classes during those 3 years. Courses are also available by internet or self study. You're usually limited in the number of self study hours that you can have.
The ethics exam is like a self study CPE class that is required to be licensed in certain states. It includes an open book exam that must be passed. Not every state requires this.
